You've landed at the right place where you're going to get exact information about backlink checker tools!
So, There are many backlink checker tools available to bloggers today, but not all of them can be trusted or give you the data you need to make strategic decisions about your content marketing efforts.
To help you navigate the wide world of backlink checker tools and find the best ones for your purposes, here’s an overview of some popular options and how they stack up.
What Are Backlinks and Why Are They Important?
Backlinks are hyperlinks that point to your website from another site, either on a different domain or within a domain directory. They’re also known as inbound links, incoming links, inlinks, or inward links.
There are two main types of backlinks: inbound links and outbound links. Inbound links are incoming links from other sites pointing to your own web page.
In contrast, an outbound link is when you point your website’s link to another website’s web page.
Backlinks are extremely important to your site’s ranking in search engines, as they serve as a signal to Google that your website is trusted by other sites online.
It also signals if your content is high quality or not. Thus, it’s important to track where you get backlinks from, both for SEO reasons and so you can optimise them over time.
What is the need for a Backlink Checker Tool?
Before we jump right into it, let’s talk about what a backlink checker tool is. If you don’t know, it allows you to search for links on web pages related to your site, competitors, or any keyword you type in.
Do you know that backlinks are one of the most important ranking factors Google uses to rank a site. This means if you want to get ranked higher in search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo, then getting more backlinks can help.
This will also help increase traffic to your website which is great for businesses who want more leads and sales. To be able to do so though, you need a quality backlink checker tool that will allow you to find new sites with good quality content relevant to yours which could be linking out to other sites.
Moz Open Site Explorer
The Moz Open Site Explorer is one of the best free backlink checker tools and it’s really straightforward. You just need to type a domain name and it will show you how many pages on that site link to yours, as well as the exact anchor text they used when linking to you.
If you click on any of those links, it will take you directly to that page within Moz’s interface so you can inspect further or make a note of them for future use.
It also has a very cool feature where you can check backlinks from multiple domains at once. So if you have several sites in your niche and want to see how they all link to each other, Moz Open Site Explorer is great for that.
Semrush Backlink Analytics
Semrush is a powerful tool for any blogger who wants to build backlinks. You can use it for free for your own site, but when you have multiple sites you need a premium account.
With Semrush, you can find domains linking to your competitors (or to competitors of clients) that might be willing to link back to your site for a price—so if you sell an ebook or webinar, Semrush could be an easy way to get some sales. After that, you just need to pitch them for links.
The way to use Semrush is straightforward: Enter a domain you want to get backlinks from, then use its Backlinks tool to search for pages linking out.
You can narrow down your results by entering a URL and selecting whether or not you want to see pages that only link back with text links (recommended), images, or nofollow links.
You can see a list of top domains linking to that site, along with how many links each domain has.
If you click on a specific domain name, you’ll be able to see all of its backlinks as well as where those links are located on their page.
Semrush also lets you see which pages are receiving links from top domains, so you can consider pitching these people to link back to your site as well.
You might have a better chance at convincing them since they’re already linking out to somebody else’s content.
Ahrefs - Backlinks Analysis
Ahrefs is one of my favourite backlink checkers. It’s a paid service, but they offer a generous free trial for their PRO package. It has pretty detailed data on backlinks for each page of your site and even tells you whether a link is dofollow or nofollow. (PRO Version).
In the free version of Ahrefs tool, you can analyse your own website's backlink profile. It will show you the historic data of backlinks along with the number of Referring domains, dofollow, nofollow backlinks, content backlinks, image backlinks, etc.
Domain authority (DA) is a number that measures a domain's popularity. So, Ahrefs backlinks index can help you understand your website's traffic from popular domains. It also gives you an idea of how many people are linking to your competitor’s sites.
This feature allows you to create competitive analysis reports for a site and its competitors so that you can come up with an effective content marketing strategy.
If the Domain Authority of a website is high, then that site has a strong backlink profile with more dofollow backlinks. So, it will help you access the overall site quality and identify a good website for your link-building campaign.
Raven Tools - Backlinks Analysis
Raven tools offer a free tool that will analyse backlinks to your website. This is something all bloggers should be using because it’s not only helpful when you get ready to make a new post, but it can also help you see where you’re getting links from in general so that you know how many quality versus spammy links are pointing to your site.
If you want to use Raven’s paid services, it is designed for small to medium-sized businesses. The business tool is called Raven Spyglass, it is geared toward identifying your best links, top-performing content, and where your traffic comes from.
It offers an excellent opportunity to spy on your competitors and what they are doing right so that you can be better.
This tool is one of my personal favourites. It’s quick, easy to use, and has a function that allows you to enter in your competitors’ URLs to see where they might be getting their links from.
While it’s not 100% accurate, it can give you a lot of great information when paired with other backlink checking tools.
In the free version of Ubersuggest, you will get limited data about the backlink profile of any domain, and if you want to see the complete data you need to purchase the premium plans.
Using Buzzsumo, you can perform backlink analysis on any website. This is a great way to identify important content ideas for your own website: find out what other people are talking about.
Buzzsumo shows you which pages on a site receive lots of social sharing activity, giving you insight into what resonates with users.
Here, you can just simply type a keyword and it will show you the list of most popular content on that topic along with the number of social shares. You can also check the backlink profile of that domain by clicking on the link icon. (paid)
Here are the best Free and paid Backlink checker tools that you can use as a blogger and content marketer. To Analyse your own backlink profile, I recommend you to use the Ahrefs tool, and for competitors' backlink profiles you can use the Ubersuggest or Semrush.
